Even in the current age of devaluations there are some good deals to be found on most of the program’s award charts. Take, for example, American’s Los Angeles to Sydney first class award.

For only 72,500 AAdvantage miles – 145,000 miles roundtrip – you can fly first class on American’s partner Qantas for the full 15+ hour flight. While that might sound like a lot of miles, and it is, it is significantly fewer miles than would be required for the same route on other carriers. And it is generally agreed that Qantas offers a very nice first class product, particularly when compared to the competition on this route.

Still not convinced? Don’t take my word for it. Just listen to how excited THREEA4ME is at the thought of taking this trip:

It’s ridiculous how excited I am about flying in F in three weeks time. I’m 51 years old and it’s the same feeling I had as an eight year old as Christmas approached. I know it’s just a 15.5 hour flight and just an airplane seat, but who knows when I’ll get this opportunity again

The route is serviced by an A380, and a first class seat isn’t all you are eligible to receive for your hard-earned miles.

As a QF F pax, you can pre-reserve a massage in the MEL F lounge. … QF also offers kerb-to-lounge escort service. The lounge can arrange that for you too if keen. This is analogous to AA Five Star service ~NYBanker

If all of this sounds a little too good to be true, it’s because, according to Lucky it nearly is.

Nearly, but not quite.

In his post Lucky offers a host of tips on booking this award. Like most great deals, it isn’t easy to snag. But with enough effort, and miles, it can be had.

And if you are planning a trip between Australia and the U.S., it might just be well worth the effort.

Just ask THREEA4ME.

Now, about the title of this post. It’s obviously a tribute to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and less obviously to this absolutely fantastic Twitter joke five years in the making.
