We’re talking about flashing your headlights here … get your heads out of the gutter people.

floydbloke of New Zealand is planning a road trip through the U.S. and asks fellow TripAdvisors about the etiquette of flashing your brights on American roadways.

Floyd gets his answer (SPOILER ALERT: we American’s don’t particularly care for it unless you’re warning us of a speed trap), and along the way we all get to learn how drivers in various other regions of the world use a flash of the high beams to signal information to one another. One of the most interesting tidbits about headlight flashing I learned in this conversation was that, on occasion, gang members will kill people who flash their headlights at them as part of a rite of gang initiation.
