While we are on the topic of “iron” (What, you didn’t know we were on the topic of “iron” – or on a topic at all for that matter? Well we are. Read my last post to catch up…)
Anyway, like I was saying, while we are on the topic of “iron” we would be remiss not to take note of this thread on the Lonely Planet forums in which zombie12 provides a trip report describing a recent experience riding the iron ore train of Mauritania.
To be honest, I had to look it up, as I had never heard of this particular iron ore train. But as it turns out, it is quite famous and fascinating:
Truthfully, zombie12’s report is a bit lacking in description. He boils down the ride as being a “truly merciless yet rewarding travelling experience.” To which arjwilson replies:
Hehe – “merciless yet rewarding,”…that sums up quite a bit of travel I’ve done over the years as a matter of fact. Yet we continue to do it.
Despite the thread’s short length and zombie’s brevity of description, it’s worth a quick read. And I’m glad zombie posted if for no other reason than bringing attention to this unusual travel option.

[…] Having said all of that, it still looks to be a more pleasant trip than the Iron Ore Train. […]
