I think the question as to whether Facebook, Twitter, Google+, et al would kill the traditional topic-based forum has been put to rest. At least according to this site, forums are still very much alive and well.
And for my money, one of the reasons forums are still thriving – particularly travel forums – is due to posters like IsleofMan.
I have said it before, and I’ll say it again – where else but in an online travel community do you find people willing to spend so much of their time sharing what they have learned with others. In this particular case, that sharing took the form of an exceptionally thorough review of a $30 overnight bag, replete with a photo series of packing instructions?
Admittedly, that might not sound all that amazing based on my description of it. But seriously, whether you are in the market for a small travel bag or not you should do yourself a favor and click through to this thread. But especially if you are in the market for an overnight bag.
IsleofMan’s review is just one more example of the generosity of spirit consistently displayed in online travel forums. Oh sure, read any forum and you are going to come across your share of trolls and malcontents, but I still submit that those types are vastly outnumbered by the good guys and gals.
And and as added bonus, it seems there is currently a particularly good deal on this reviewed bag. Several travelers have already taken advantage. It isn’t entirely clear though how long this deal will last, so again, if you are in the market for a great overnight bag at a ridiculously low price, it’s just a click away.
